One of the richest Ganesh mandals in Mumbai, GSB Seva Mandal has insured a record of Rs 474.4 crore for its Ganpati idol, gold jewelery and volunteers. Last year, this amount was Rs 400 crore. Ganesh Mandals are formed by groups of celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi. The insurance amount has increased due to the increase in the price of gold and silver jewelery on the Ganpati idol and the joining of more volunteers. Public sector company New India Assurance has provided this insurance to GSB Seva Mandal. This policy includes all types of risk, standard fire and special risk policy, earthquake insurance, public safety, individual accident insurance of volunteers and others.

The largest amount of insurance of Rs 474.4 crore has been kept for individual accident insurance of volunteers. There is an insurance of Rs 375 crore for priests, cooks, slippers counters, valet parking staff, security staff. There is an insurance of Rs 67 crore for gold-silver jewelery and other disadvantages. A standard fire and special policy of Rs 2 crore has also been taken for other items including furniture. The insurance of the venue is worth Rs 43 lakh. Mandal has not disclosed the amount of insurance premium. Officials said that this is due to the terms of the contract.

The number of people taking events has increased for major festivals like Dahi Handi, Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Puja. Organizers are paying more attention to protect their programs from risks, causing this increase. Experts say that the support of the government is also a reason for this change.
