Wedding cards are often limited to date, venue and guest list, but this Walima card from a village in Jaunpur has become the center of debate on social harmony and identity these days. This unique invitation card for the wedding ceremony of the nephew of Naushad Ahmed ‘Dubey’, a resident of Dehri village of Kerakat area and the nephew of Vishal Bharat Sansthan’s district chairman, is becoming increasingly viral on social media and people are seeing it as an example of Hindu-Muslim unity.

Mention of 356 year old lineage

On the envelope of the Valima card going viral, there is mention of Zamindar Lal Bahadur Dubey of the year 1669 AD. It has been told in the card that guests have been invited on the auspicious occasion of Nikah and marriage ceremony of his eighth generation descendant Khalid ‘Dubey’. He said that on this occasion, invitation has been sent to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister and Sangh Parivar through Vishal Bharat Sansthan. He says that he wants the message of brotherhood and mutual respect to reach as many people as possible through this event.

New debate started on two types of envelopes

Another discussion has come to light regarding Valima card. It is being told that two different types of envelopes have been printed for the banquet. One envelope mentions being descended from the eighth generation, while the other simply says “Bahubhoj (Dawate Valima)”. There are speculations that separate cards have been prepared for Hindu and Muslim communities, which has made this entire matter more popular.

There has already been a ruckus regarding the surname.

This is not the first time that the name of Naushad Ahmed ‘Dubey’ has come in the headlines. About a year ago, during the wedding held in his family on December 10, a political and social debate had erupted regarding printing the name ‘Naushad Ahmed Dubey’ on the card. At that time there was resentment in the Muslim community, whereas the Hindu society accepted it wholeheartedly. Now once again the Valima card has brought Dehri village into the center of discussion and has given rise to a new debate regarding social harmony, identity and tradition.
