In this bloody one-on-one battle that lasted for about 90 minutes, the security forces displayed bravery and killed 6 terrorists, while they succeeded in capturing one injured terrorist alive. However, in this fierce encounter, 4 brave soldiers of the paramilitary force were martyred for the country. This is the first such major terrorist attack in Karachi after October 2024, which has shaken the security system of the entire country.

That explosion at midnight: Car collision at the gate and rain of grenades

According to eyewitnesses and initial investigation, this horrific incident took place at around 8:30 pm in Gulistan-e-Johar (Block 5), a densely populated area of Karachi. The terrorists, armed with heavy weapons and ammunition, targeted the main gate of the Rangers complex. As part of the conspiracy, the attackers first rammed their speeding vehicle through the main gate to infiltrate inside the complex. As soon as the collision occurred, there was a huge explosion, which created a stir there. Immediately after the gate was breached, the terrorists started throwing hand grenades indiscriminately inside the complex and opened heavy fire from automatic weapons. Sindh Inspector General of Police (IG) Javed Alam Odho confirmed that immediately after the sound of the blast, Rangers troops took charge without wasting any time and stopped the terrorists from moving inside.

That 90-minute bloody rescue operation: When commandos took charge

Considering the seriousness of the attack, a red alert was immediately issued in the entire area. As soon as the firing started, the officials sealed the Rangers headquarters and all the roads around it. Local residents were given strict instructions to stay indoors. During this major military operation, due to security reasons, electricity was cut in many nearby areas, due to which only the sound of bullets kept echoing amidst the dense darkness and silence all around.

To help the Rangers, lethal commandos of the Special Security Unit (SSU) and squads of the Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF) were immediately dispatched by air and land. Rescue 1122 Sindh emergency teams also took charge at the spot. Heavy shelling continued from both sides for about one and a half hours. Ultimately, the joint forces strengthened the siege and killed 6 terrorists on the spot and captured an injured attacker, which is expected to reveal many big secrets.

Entry of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar: First major attack in Karachi after 2024

The responsibility of this suicide attack has been taken by TTP’s most violent and radical group ‘Jamaat-ul-Ahrar’. This group has usually been active in Pakistan’s north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan, targeting security forces and government officials, but its presence in a metropolis like Karachi has alerted the intelligence agencies. This attack is the first major attack in Karachi since October 2024. Earlier, in 2024, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) had carried out a suicide blast near Karachi Airport, in which two Chinese engineers were killed. At the same time, TTP had earlier carried out a similar attack on Karachi Police Office (KPO) in February 2023.

Shelters across the border: fueling Pak-Afghan tension

This attack has taken place at a time when diplomatic and military relations between Pakistan and the Taliban government of Afghanistan have reached an extremely low level. Pakistani Army and intelligence agencies clearly allege that the Afghan Taliban is deliberately providing safe havens and training centers to the terrorists of TTP and Jamaat-ul-Ahrar on their soil, due to which these terrorists are coming across the border and causing havoc in Pakistan. In response to this, the Pakistani Air Force has in recent times entered into Afghan territory and carried out airstrikes on alleged TTP bases. Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has summoned the provincial police chief and Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi and given strict instructions to submit a detailed investigation report on this security lapse.

Horrible testimony of statistics: Why did attacks suddenly increase in Pakistan?

According to a recent report by security experts, Pakistan has seen an unprecedented increase in terrorist activities in recent months. A massive increase of 27 percent has been recorded in terrorist attacks across the country in May 2026 alone. The most frightening thing is that there has been a huge increase of 92 percent in the cases of deaths of civilians in these attacks. After Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, now civilian and military targets are being targeted one after the other in Karachi. Recently, an incident of a truck hitting a mosque near a mosque in Karachi and injuring 30 civilians was also reported. It is clear from these incidents that terrorist organizations are working on a big and deep conspiracy to destabilize the city of Karachi, which is called the economic backbone of the country.
