There was an uproar in a Rajasthan Roadways bus when transgender advocate Raveena Singh raised objection over the gender option in the ticket. In a bus running in Jaipur’s Dudu area, the conductor asked them to choose only one option between “male” and “female” while giving them the ticket, as there was no transgender option in the machine.
Raveena Singh raised the question – “When I have my own gender, why should I buy a ticket in the name of male or female?” He said that this is like denying the identity of the transgender community. After this, discussion started among the passengers present in the bus and the atmosphere became tense.
Debate regarding transgender category
Regarding the lack of option in the ticket machine, the conductor said that he can issue tickets only as per the rules and it is not in his power to make changes in the machine. Raveena got angry on this matter and the argument started increasing. Seeing the situation worsening, the conductor took the bus along with the passengers directly to Dudu police station. Police officers listened to both the parties and pacified them.
At the same time, Assistant Officer of Roadways Control Room, Jaipur, Pramod Jain clarified that the rule of transgender category has not yet been implemented in Rajasthan Roadways. If the government issues an order, this option will be added to the ticket machines. He told that transgender category is already available in Indian Railways.
Inspiring story of transgender lawyer
The story of transgender lawyer Raveena Singh is also inspiring. Born in Sojat town of Pali district, Raveena was known as Ravindra Singh in her childhood. After gender transition, she adopted the name Raveena Singh and completed her studies. She obtained her LLB degree from Bikaner and registered with Rajasthan Bar Council as a woman advocate on 2 August 2025.
She is the first transgender lawyer of Rajasthan High Court. This incident once again raises the question as to when will equal facilities be ensured for the transgender community in public services.
