Mumbai Heavy Rainfall Alert: Mayanagari Mumbai is once again facing torrential rain. In a few hours, 177 mm of rain stopped the city’s speed. Waterlogging up to 2 feet on the roads, local trains affected, delays in flights and high -tide alerts of BMC – together are reminding the situation like 2005 floods.
Will Mumbai repeat in Mumbai like 2005?
IMD has released Red Alert in Mumbai and adjoining Thane and Raigad districts. The continuous heavy rains have alerted the administration. Vikhroli recorded more than 100 mm of rainfall in 139.5 mm and other areas as well. In view of the seriousness of the situation, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the ministry offices to be closed ahead of time and called a review meeting.
Why did local train services come to a standstill?
- Local trains called Mumbai’s lifeline were affected by waterlogging.
- The main line services from CSMT to Thane were stopped.
- Shuttle services were kept on some sections like Thane-Karjat, Thane-Khopoli, Thane-Kasara.
- Services were also disrupted on the Harbor Line.

Why did flights delay and root diversion?
Due to heavy rains and low visibility at the Mumbai airport, 14 flights had to go to Go-Around while a flight in Ahmedabad-Mumbai was diverted towards Surat. Passengers had to wait for hours. Airlines issued advisory advising people to postpone the yatra.

What does BMC alert and lakes say?
The BMC has issued an alert sharing the time of high tide. Also announced to close all schools, colleges and government offices. Out of the 7 lakes in Mumbai, 6 lakes have become full and the total stock has reached 91%.
Why is there water logging and traffic jam on the roads?
- The low -lying areas like Dadar, Andheri, Malad, Vakola Bridge and Khar subway have been filled with one and a half to two feet of water. Due to this
- Malad subway was closed.
- Dadar and Kings Circle flyover were jammed for hours.
- Appeal has been made to people that do not leave the house if not necessary.
Why were examinations and offices postponed?
The University of Mumbai has postponed all the examinations of August 19 till August 23 in view of heavy rains and red alerts. At the same time, BMC announced to close all government and semi-government offices.
Will the next 24 hours more dangerous?
IMD has warned that there is a possibility of heavy rains in the next 24 hours. Vortex and strong winds in the sea can worsen the situation in Mumbai and suburbs.
