Haiti, a Caribbean country, has taken a small but important step toward modern travel rules. During a ceremony in Port-au-Prince, the country introduced a new digital arrival and departure card called iKat. The event brought together government leaders, aviation partners, and travel officials who say this system will slowly replace the old paper form.
What iKat Is Meant To Do
Here’s the thing. Haiti wants to make border checks faster and more reliable. The iKat card is part of that plan.
The idea is simple. Travellers fill out their arrival form online before they fly. This helps the immigration team process people more quickly at airports, seaports, and land borders.
It also gives the government a clearer picture of who is entering the country, why they are coming, and how long they plan to stay.
Officials say the digital system will help track overstays beyond the 90-day limit and build a more accurate database for migration statistics. It also helps different agencies share information more easily.
How To Fill Out the iKat Card
Anyone travelling to Haiti, including Haitians living abroad, can complete the form iKat online at the official website: delidoc.gouv.ht/ikat.
Travellers can fill it out up to 72 hours before arriving or departing. Authorities strongly suggest doing it early. If not, you will need to complete it at the airport or border, which will slow things down.
What You Need To Provide
The online form asks for:
1. Personal Details: Your name, nationality, date of birth, passport number, passport expiry date, email, phone, home address, and where you will stay in Haiti.
2. Travel Details: Your travel dates, flight number or transport details, where you are coming from, why you are visiting, and how long you plan to stay.
3. Customs Information: Whether you are travelling with family members, goods to declare, large amounts of money, food items, or anything else, customs needs to know.
4. Health Information: Any health issues, countries you visited recently, and an emergency contact.
What Happens After Submission
Once you submit the form, you’ll receive a PDF with a QR code. This can be downloaded or saved on your phone and must be shown to immigration officers when you arrive in Haiti.
You’ll also get a nine-character alphanumeric code that lets you edit your form later if your travel details change.
Why This Matters
For Haiti, iKat is more than an online form. It is an early step toward a more modern border system. If the pilot goes well, officials expect it to help reduce lines, improve security checks, and make travel a little smoother for everyone.
