Kolkata (West Bengal): Puri Jagannath Temple Chief Priest Bhavani Das Mahapatra on Saturday gave a strong reaction regarding the alleged scam in donations to Ram Temple. He demanded the strictest action against the culprits in this case, saying that any attempt to weaken the temple is a “serious crime”.

- Speaking on the issue, Mohapatra said, “When it comes to Ram Temple, it is a matter of India’s spirituality and faith. Any attempt to weaken it is a serious crime. Those found guilty should be given the harshest punishment possible.”
- Expressing concern over these allegations, the chief priest said, “It is very sad that the people who were given the responsibility of protecting these holy places, the same protectors have become predators.”
8 accused have been arrested so far
- Let us tell you that an Ayodhya court on Friday sent 8 accused in the Ram Mandir donation scam to judicial custody till June 29. After the arrest, the accused were produced in the local court.
- Prosecution officer KC Verma in the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court of Ayodhya told reporters that all eight accused have been sent to judicial custody till Monday and will be produced again in the court on June 29.
So much money seized from theft from Ram temple
- In the case, “A total of Rs 79,85,493 has been recovered from all the accused except one accused, Subhash. Nothing was found from Subhash, although he was involved in the conspiracy. Varying amounts have been recovered from others.”
- Verma further said, “The special court related to the Prevention of Corruption Act was not sitting today; it was not a working day. Being a holiday, the remand was given till Monday. The people involved are government employees who draw salaries from the government, and many of them are SBI employees too.”
These are the main accused of donating Ram temple
- About five or six people are from SBI.” Verma said that the names of the eight accused who have been arrested are – Avinash Shukla, Ankalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Karunesh Pandey, Rama Shankar Mishra, Subhash Srivastava and Rama Shankar (alias Tinku).
- The police had registered a case at the Ram Janmabhoomi police station regarding alleged financial misappropriation of funds donated to the Ram temple. This FIR was registered on June 25.
Who lodged the complaint in the Ram temple theft case?
The complaint was lodged by Krishnamohan, a member of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. In the complaint, these people have been accused of theft, embezzlement and systematic misappropriation of money donated by devotees.
