The second T20 match against South Africa was not good for Team India and it had to face defeat by 51 runs. Apart from a few players, this match was not good for the rest of the stars of Team India. But the most shocking performance was that of star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who gave away 45 runs in his spell of 4 overs. Bumrah did not even get a wicket and he was hit with a lot of sixes. But his condition in T20 has been similar this entire year and he has hit sixes equivalent to almost 5 years in 2025 itself.
In this match played in the new stadium of Chandigarh, South Africa had scored 213 runs. The African team was able to reach this score because Quinton de Kock played a stormy innings of 90 runs in 46 balls, in which he also hit 7 sixes. Out of these, he even hit one sixer on Bumrah. But not only De Kock, but his two other teammates also hit sixes on the Indian pacer. In the same over before de Kock, Reeza Hendricks sent the ball for 6 runs and then in the 20th over, Donovan Ferreira scored 6-6 runs twice.
Overall, Jasprit Bumrah hit 4 sixes in this match, which happened for the first time in his entire T20 International career. Due to this, Jasprit Bumrah’s figures deteriorated this year. The Indian pacer bowled in 10 innings of 10 matches in 2025 and during this, he was hit 10 sixes in 37.4 overs. Although this is very less compared to many other bowlers, but considering Bumrah’s stature and his record, it is very bad. The surprising thing is that before this, in 5 consecutive years between 2020 and 2024, Bumrah had hit only 12 sixes in 27 innings while bowling about 100 overs.
It’s not just that. Bumrah’s figures may worsen further. There are still 3 matches left in the India-South Africa series and looking at Bumrah’s current form, it seems that he will equal the number of 12 sixes. Not only this, now eyes are on whether Bumrah breaks his 9 year old record. In fact, when Bumrah made his debut in international cricket in 2016, he hit a total of 15 sixes in 21 T20 innings. After this he never hit more than 4 sixes in a year. But this time the old record can be equaled.
