A big question related to PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is much discussed among the farmers. Is the government going to increase the annual amount of this scheme from Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000? In December 2024, a standing committee of the Parliament had suggested that farmers should be given Rs 12,000 annually in view of the current economic situation. On this issue, on December 12, 2025, in Rajya Sabha, MP Sameerul Islam sought an answer from the government.
On this question, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur clearly said that no such proposal is in the consideration of the government. That is, there is currently no plan to double the amount of PM Kisan. This has put an end to the discussions among farmers.
Is Farmer ID mandatory or not?
MP Sameerul Islam asked another important question: Has registration of Farmer ID been made mandatory to get PM Kisan installment? In response, Minister of State Ramnath Thakur said that farmer ID is necessary only for new registration, that too in those 14 states where the work of preparing farmer registry has started. In states where this process has not started, farmers can register to avail the benefits of the scheme even without a farmer ID. The minister also provided data of farmers from those states who have not yet registered for Farmer ID.
What is PM Kisan Yojana and who can take benefits?
PM Kisan Samman Nidhi is a central scheme, which was started in February 2019. Its objective is to provide financial assistance of Rs 6,000 annually to farmers who have cultivable land.
