Let us tell you that for the last several years, there have been many deaths due to brain -eating amoeba in Kerala. This amoeba is not a common germ. It can be seen from a microscope itself and it is mostly grown in lukewarm, stalled or less clean water. Especially if ponds, lakes or swimming pools are not cleaned properly, then this organism grows rapidly.
What is Brain Eating Amoeba?
Dr. Subhash Giri in the Department of Medicine at RML Hospital in Delhi says that Brain Eating Amoeba, is called Naegleria Fowleri, is a rare but a very dangerous infection. It reaches the mind through the nose and reaches the brain. If this amoeba enters the body through the nose, then it can reach the brain directly. And this is where real destruction begins.
How is the infection with Brain Eating Amoeba?
Initially, this amoeba climbs above the nose veins and reaches the brain (brain). After reaching there, it starts destroying the cells of the brain. This infection occurs when the contaminated water goes inside the nose. Especially in Swimming Pools, Ponds or Lakes, dirty water is a risk factor for this.
What are the early symptoms of Brain Eating Amoeba?
The problem is that in the beginning symptoms seem to be absolutely common, such as a viral fever. For this reason, most people take it lightly. But as the disease increases, the patient may get seizures, fainting may come and the condition becomes very serious. Due to this, the patient starts seeing symptoms like high headache, fever, vomiting and neck stiffness.
Is Brain Eating Amoeba treated posesable?
The medical name of this disease is Primary Amibic meningo, pam (PAM). Unfortunately, its treatment is very difficult and all the cases that have been reported so far, the rate of death has been very high. The reason is that after reaching the brain, the amoeba spreads very fast and most of the medicines do not reach it in an effective way. This is the reason that many times doctors have very little time left.
How to avoid brain eating amoeba?
- Always be careful if you bathe or swim in rivers, ponds or lakes
- Try not to go inside the nose
- Use clean and chlorine swimming pool
- Pay attention to climbing water in the nose and clean it immediately
- Avoid dirty ponds or unchlorinated swimming pools
- Drinking clean water, maintaining hygiene
