Supreme Court on Cadets: The Supreme Court asked the Center and Armed Forces that the injured or crippled cadets should be given rehabilitation and insurance benefits during military training. Justice Biwi Nagratna described it as the issue of Social Justice.

Supreme Court on Cadets: The Supreme Court on Monday summoned the answer from the center and the three armed forces heads in an important case. This hearing in the court is associated with cadets who become crippled or disabled due to accident or injuries during military training. The court clearly said that only people come to the army, but if they do not get benefits, they will be disappointed.

Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice R. Mahadevan bench described the matter as unfortunate and said that even though these cadets do not get the status of X-Servicemen, rehabilitation and benfits should be ensured. This is a matter related to social justice, it should be considered with immediate effect.

Emphasis on insurance and rehabilitation

During the hearing, the court asked whether there is any insurance scheme for cadnts? The answer was that there is no such plan at the moment. On this, Justice Nagratna said that if the group insurance is implemented, the department will not be burdened and the risk will be borne by the insurance company. The court also suggested that the injured cadets could be re-assessed after completion of treatment and they could be included in a desk job or suitable role in forces.

Social Justice issue

Describing it as a case of social justice, Justice Nagratna said that we have to ensure that these cadets become available and get rehabilitation correctly. The court has issued notice to the Government of India, Defense Minister, Finance Minister, Chief of Defense Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Force Staff, Ministry of Social Justice.

Next hearing on 4 September

In this case, Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhatti said that she will discuss with the concerned authorities and inform the court. At the same time, cadets’ lawyers can also give their written suggestions. The Supreme Court has fixed the next hearing date 4 September. It is believed that after getting the answer from the Center, the court can give a big direction.
