The process of election of Uttar Pradesh BJP President has started. Nominations will be held on 13 December and voting on 14 December. The new president will be elected under the supervision of Union Minister Piyush Goyal. The party is focusing on cultivating the OBC vote bank.
This time in the cold mornings of Lucknow, not only the cold wind but also the sound of political turmoil is being felt. The last round of BJP organizational elections has started in Uttar Pradesh, and with it the countdown for the selection of the party’s ‘new captain’ has also started. Before the big contest of 2027, this election will decide not just one post but the future political direction. The focus on OBC equations, the air of ticket distribution, and the increasing activities in the capital Lucknow are making it more interesting.
Nominations on 13th December, elections to be held on 14th December
BJP has announced the formal dates for the state president elections.
- The nomination process will run from 2 to 3 pm on December 13.
- The elections will be held on December 14 in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal.
National General Secretary Vinod Tawde will be the central election observer. If only one name comes, the president will be selected unanimously. But if more than one nomination is filed, the Provincial Council will hold voting on the same day and the results will be declared immediately.

400 members of the provincial council will vote
BJP has released the list of provincial council members under Sangathan Parv. These include many big and influential names:
- MP Dr. Mahesh Sharma
- Chhatrapal Singh Gangwar
- Devendra Singh Bhole
- Union Minister Kamlesh Paswan
- Dr. Vinod Kumar Bind
- Arun Pathak
- Vijay Bahadur Pathak
- Mr. Tariq Mansoor
All these members will vote in the selection of the state president. Around 400 members elected from a total of 403 assembly constituencies are part of the process.
Consensus priority, voting last option
As per party tradition, an attempt will be made to create consensus first. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak can also become proposers of the nomination. If no consensus is reached, then only voting will take place.
Why is this election important? Big message of 2027 and OBC equation
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s seats in UP reduced from 62 to 33. The party sees this as a big slippage of OBC votes. In such a situation, the state president will be the one who has a strong hold in the OBC community. Possible names include:
- Pankaj Chaudhary (Kurmi)
- BL Verma (Lodhi)
- Dharampal Singh
- Swatantra Dev Singh
- Keshav Prasad Maurya
- Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti
- Baburam Nishad
Among these, the claims of Pankaj Chaudhary and BL Verma are considered to be the strongest.

Before nomination, the top leadership meeting will be held in Lucknow. It is believed that the final consensus on the name can be reached here. Piyush Goyal and Vinod Tawde will reach Lucknow on Saturday. Meanwhile, the meeting of current president Bhupendra Singh Choudhary with PM Modi has further intensified the politics of signals.
New President: Not just a post, start in 2027
According to a senior leader, “This is not just the election of the president, but the cornerstone of the strategy for 2027. The new president will give new energy to the entire organization.” If consensus is reached, the new president will emerge on December 14 itself. The entire Uttar Pradesh and national level leaders are keeping their eyes on this election.
