Amid differences with the party after praising PM Modi, Shashi Tharoor stayed away from the Congress Lok Sabha meeting for the third consecutive time. He cited personal reasons for not attending the meeting called by Rahul Gandhi.
New Delhi: Shashi Tharoor did not attend the meeting of Lok Sabha members of Congress Party. This is the third consecutive time that Tharoor has stayed away from the meeting. This distance has come at a time when he is having deep differences with the central leadership of Congress after his statements praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP. Before the winter session of Parliament ends on December 19, Rahul Gandhi had called 99 Congress MPs for a meeting on Friday morning to review the performance so far and to renew attacks against the BJP.
But, Tharoor did not reach. He posted on X that he was in Kolkata for his long-time collaborator John Koshy’s wedding and his sister Smita Tharoor’s birthday. Earlier, Tharoor had also not attended the meetings held on 18 and 30 November. He also stayed away from the meeting in which Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge were present. A day before that, the Congress leader had attended a private event where the Prime Minister had delivered a speech, and he had written in praise of that speech. After this a political controversy arose.
