Breaking Now: Will Anna Hazare’s “Aakhri Andolan” shake up Maharashtra politics? Angered by the Lokayukta Act not being implemented even after passing, Hazare will sit on a fast unto death from January 30. The silence of the government has deepened the questions.
Mumbai The country’s famous social activist Anna Hazare is once again ready for a big movement against the government. He has announced that he will start an indefinite fast unto death from January 30 in Ralegan Siddhi, Maharashtra. This time his issue is to implement the Lokayukta Act in Maharashtra, which was passed many years ago, but has not been implemented till date. Anna Hazare has also called it his “last movement”. This has increased both curiosity and concern among the people as to why they felt the need to sit on a fast again after so many years?
Why is Lokayukta not being implemented? Big question becomes mystery
Anna Hazare says that Lokayukta law is very important to stop corruption. The government passed it and the President also approved it, but this law has not yet been implemented on the ground. The biggest thing – Anna Hazare claims that he wrote a letter to the Chief Minister about this issue seven times, but did not even get any reply.

Lokayukta Act: Law passed, approval complete, yet why not implemented?
Anna Hazare alleges that the government has forgotten the welfare of the people. Talking to reporters, Anna Hazare clearly said that he is very sad that an important law is being deliberately stopped. He said that I have written seven letters, but the government is silent. I do not understand why there is so much delay in implementing the Lokayukta Act. Government exists for the welfare of the people, not just for show. Anna Hazare believes that if Lokayukta is implemented, there will be a big stop to corruption and the government system will be transparent.
Fasted in 2022 also, then committee was formed
This is not the first time that Anna Hazare has gone on a hunger strike demanding Lokayukta. In the year 2022 also he had agitated in Ralegan Siddhi. At that time the conflict was averted after the mediation of the then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Union Agriculture Minister. The government had then promised that the Lokayukta law would be implemented soon. After this, a committee was also formed, the draft was prepared, and the Act was passed by both the houses of the Assembly. But now 2025 is about to come, and according to Anna Hazare, the law is lying locked in the files.
Anger is increasing among the public regarding the Lokayukta Act.
Lokayukta Act is a law to prevent corruption. It fixes accountability at every level, from government to administration. Many citizen groups and activists also believe that it is necessary to implement this law in Maharashtra, because many big scams have been coming to light continuously. After Anna Hazare’s announcement of fast, the debate has intensified on social media as to whether the government will bow down this time? Will the Lokayukta Act really be implemented? Or will this movement also end in promises?
Why did Anna say last movement?
In 2011, when Anna Hazare was sitting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, the entire country stood against corruption. Lakhs of people had come out on the streets. The “India Against Corruption” movement had changed the entire political environment. Anna Hazare is now saying that this movement will be his last struggle. This has worried his supporters, activists and the general public. Indefinite fast unto death at the age of 83 is not an ordinary decision. People say that if the government does not pay attention this time too, it will be a big question for both democracy and accountability.
Government’s silence: Just ‘claims’ or really ‘indifference’?
Passing of a law and not being implemented are two completely different things. Hazare alleges that the government is just pretending, but is not serious about the welfare of the people. He has clearly said that “Government is for the people, not just for show.” With no concrete answer or argument coming from the government, this matter becomes more mysterious.
