Mumbai Rainfall Alert 2025: Heavy rains are continuously wreaking havoc in the country’s unique capital Mumbai. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released Orange Alert and Red Alert in Mumbai and surrounding districts. The question arises whether every time rain will mean – short circuit, tree collapse and building collapse? These incidents of rain are not opening layers of real challenges of the city?

Has every rain of Mumbai now become a disaster?

The continuous rains since Sunday have held many parts of Mumbai. Orange alert was released in areas such as Borivali, Thane, Kalyan, Mulund, Powai, Santa Cruz, Chembur and Colaba. According to the IMD warning, there may be rains of up to 60 km/h with strong winds. Raigad, Ratnagiri, Satara, Kolhapur and Pune have been placed on Red Alert.

Short circuit and fire: Has this common view?

According to the municipal body, on Monday, 6 short circuits and falling trees were recorded in Mumbai on Monday. On Sunday, the power meter box caught fire during the rains in Matunga area. The risk of short circuit and fire increases manifold as rain water is filled in low -lying areas like Kings Circle. The question is – is Mumbai no longer safe?

Why are the incidence of buildings collapse in Mumbai increasing?

The ladder of a two -storey building collapsed in Prabhu Gali, located near Marine Lines station in South Mumbai. Some people stuck on the upper floor which were immediately rescued by fire brigade and police. The landslide between the rain in Vikhroli Parksite killed 2 people. Is it not an indication that every year’s monsoon is questioning the strength of Mumbai buildings and structure?

BMC Report: How much rain?

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reports that from 8 am to 6 pm on Sunday-

  • Average 23.81 mm rain in Mumbai city
  • 25.01 mm in eastern suburbs
  • The western suburbs recorded rainfall of 40-45 mm at 18.47 mm at many places.

These figures show that even though the average of rain is seen to be low, its effect can be extremely dangerous.

Will the speed of Mumbai stop again due to rain?

On Saturday, continuous rains affected local train services badly. The low -lying areas were flooded and waterlogged on the tracks. Local trains of Central Railway were also recorded on Monday morning. The question is, will Mumbai stop again in every rain?

Alert has also been issued in Mumbai as well as many districts of Maharashtra.

  • Red Alert: Raigad, Ratnagiri, Satara, Kolhapur, Pune
  • Orange Alert: Thane, Palghar, Navi Mumbai
  • Yellow alert: Nagpur, Amravati, Wardha, Kolhapur

Will Mumbai submerge again?

Every year during the monsoon, the picture of Mumbai is almost the same – roads are submerged, local trains late and smoke arising from electric wires. The question is, will the Mumbai lose to the monsoon this time, or will the city find a permanent solution?
