BCCI AGM 2025: The 31st annual meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India will be held on December 22, in which many important decisions related to the central contracts of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, contracts of women players and domestic cricket will be taken.
Rohit-Virat Central Contracts: There is going to be a big change in Indian cricket this month. The 31st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of BCCI is scheduled to be held on 22 December. Many such decisions can be taken in this, which will have a direct impact on Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, women players and domestic cricket. This meeting will be online, but the weight of the decisions will be very heavy. This AGM is also special because many posts from BCCI President to Secretary have recently changed and the new team will decide the roadmap for India’s cricket future on a large scale for the first time.
There may be changes in the contract of Kohli-Rohit
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have now retired from Test and T20I cricket. Both the senior players are now part of Team India only in ODI cricket. In such a situation, there is bound to be a discussion on changing the category of his central contract. According to BCCI sources, the contract structure can now be changed considering the availability and form of the players. It will be interesting to see whether both the veteran players are retained in A+ or there is a change in the category.
Will Shubman Gill get a big promotion?
As Kohli and Rohit are limited to limited cricket format, Shubman Gill has emerged as the new face of Team India. He is the captain of Test and ODI. A proposal to put Gill in A+ contract category can be made in the BCCI meeting. Till now only top-level multi-format players have been included in this category. Along with him, Ravindra Jadeja (Test vice-captain) and Jasprit Bumrah are also expected to be retained in the same category.
Women and domestic cricket players also discussed
Changes in the contracts of women players and payment of domestic cricketers will also be discussed in the AGM. BCCI has been increasing investment in women’s cricket for some time now and now there is a possibility of bringing the payment structure closer to international standards. Along with this, a proposal will also be made to improve the fees of umpires and match referees. This step is important because there was a demand for updating their payment structure for a long time amid the increasing match load in domestic matches.
First big meeting of the new leadership of BCCI
Everyone’s eyes are on this AGM also because many posts have changed in BCCI recently. Mithun Manhas has become the BCCI President, Raghuram Bhatt the Treasurer. Devjit Saikia has got the post of Secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia has got the post of Joint Secretary. Saurashtra Cricket Association President Jaidev Shah has also joined as the new councillor. The new team is going to take many big decisions for the future of Indian cricket.
Kohli’s excellent form, reached number 2 in ICC rankings
Before the meeting, Virat Kohli has made another big achievement. Kohli has reached number 2 in the ICC rankings after scoring 302 runs in the 3-match ODI series against South Africa. He now trails his teammate Rohit Sharma, who is still the No. 1 ODI batsman, by just 8 rating points. Kohli played an important role in India winning the series 2-1 by scoring an unbeaten 65 runs in the last ODI.
