Why do gall bladder stones occur?
Dr. Sachin Ambekar, Director, Department of Minimal Access Surgery, MASSH Hospital, Delhi. It is said that every person has red cells in his body. Some of these cells become old and start breaking down. Their breakdown produces bilirubin. The liver removes it from the body (through feces and urine). But in some people, the liver is not able to expel it properly and it starts accumulating in the gall bladder. Gradually these become very small particles and after a few years they take the form of stones.
Dr. Sachin says that stones also have many stages. In the beginning it is very small and symptoms are not visible, then gradually symptoms appear, but people ignore them and these stones start damaging the gall bladder and can also cause cancer.

How do gallstones turn into cancer?
Dr Sachin It is said that when the stone remains for a long time, it starts swelling in the inner layer of the gall bladder. In some cases this swelling keeps increasing. Especially if a stone is present for more than five years, there is a risk of developing cancer in the gall bladder. The size of the stone is also a big risk factor. People whose stones are more than 10 mm are at risk of cancer.
It is a matter of concern that if gall bladder stones turn into cancer, it is identified late in many patients. There are cases in which the patient had stones for a long time and was undergoing Ayurvedic treatment. When suddenly there was severe pain, he came for surgery. The gall bladder was removed through surgery, but when the sample was sent for biopsy, cancer was found in it.
Dr. Sachin says that in the last few years, the number of such patients has increased significantly who previously had stones and due to not getting them removed, they turned into cancer. In such a situation, if you have a stone in the gall bladder then definitely get it treated. You can get the stones removed through surgery. Now its operation has also become quite easy.
