Jasprit Bumrah involved in MASSIVE controversy after equaling World Record in Team India’s win over South Africa, fans say ‘umpire is.’

Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah equaled an incredible world record by becoming just the fifth bowler ever to claim 100 wickets in all three formats of the game.
Bumrah claimed his 100th wicket in T20I cricket, becoming the second Indian bowler after Arshdeep Singh to achieve this feat. But Bumrah’s massive achievement wasn’t without its share of controversy. The Mumbai Indians pacer dismissed a dangerous looking South African batter Dewald Brevis for 22, caught by skipper Suryakumar Yadav to reduce the visitors to 68 for 7 in just the 11th over. However, for almost everyone who saw the replay of the dismissal believed that Bumrah may have overstepped in the delivery that dismissed Brevis. The decision was referred to the third umpire who adjudged it to be a legal delivery although it appeared that there was no portion of Bumrah’s foot behind the crease.

As the third umpire ruled the decision in Bumrah’s favour, the Indian pacer became just the fifth bowler after Lasith Malinga, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shakib al Hasan and Tim Southee to claim 100 wickets in Tests, ODIs and T20 cricket. Bumrah added a 101st wicket in the same over as he dismissed Keshav Maharaj for a duck, caught behind by Jitesh Sharma.

Bumrah was retained for Rs 18 crore by Nita Ambani’s Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2026 season. The 32-year-old Indian spearhead now has 234 wickets in Tests, 149 in ODIs and 101 in T20I cricket.

Suryakumar Yadav’s Team India got off to a great start in the five-match T20I series against South Africa, defeating them by 101 runs in the first game at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Tuesday. The Indians posted 175 after being reduced to 17 for 2 thanks to Hardik Pandya’s belligerent 59 not out off 24 balls with 4 sixes and six fours.

South Africa, in reply, were bundled out for 74 – the fourth-lowest total in T20I cricket ever against India. It was also the lowest total by South Africa in T20I cricket.

“Yeah, I just told him (Bumrah), ‘Welcome’. Congratulated him and told him, ‘Welcome to the club’ (100 T20I wickets). It makes life very easy for the captain as well. They can play around with the bowling combinations, whenever he wants Jassi (Bumrah) bhai to bowl three in the powerplay or me to bowl three in the powerplay,” Arshdeep Singh said in the post-match presentation.
