More than 30,000 Shikshamitras of Uttar Pradesh have got great relief. The government has issued an order to return to the original school. Now Shikshamitras will be posted in their village or Gram Sabha only. Female Shikshamitras will get the option of posting in their husband’s village.
When Shiksha Mitras, who once taught the first alphabet to children on the village footpaths, got lost in far-flung districts due to posting problems, it seemed as if the relationship with their own village had started breaking. After years of struggle, protests and endless waiting, the moment finally came when the government calmed their hearts. The way for more than 30,000 Shikshamitras to return to their original schools in Uttar Pradesh has now been completely cleared.
Government issued order late night, big relief to women teachers
Late night, Special Secretary of Basic Education Department, Avadhesh Kumar Tiwari issued the much awaited order, in which it was clearly stated that now Shikshamitras will be able to teach only in their parent school, Gram Sabha, Gram Panchayat or ward.
This decision has brought the most relief to those women Shiksha Mitras, who were facing posting hundreds of kilometers away from their husband’s house for years. By having a job near home, their journey will be reduced to half, and many will even be able to have lunch at home.

As per the new order:
- Maximum 2 Shikshamitras will be appointed in every school (3 in Naxal affected areas).
- Where there is no space in the parent school, posting will be made in any council school of the same Gram Sabha/Gram Panchayat/ward.

This entire process will be monitored by a district level committee headed by the District Magistrate, which will include CDO, DIET Principal, BSA and Assistant Finance and Accounts Officer.
Homecoming will be completed in two phases
The government has decided to complete this process in two phases:
- First phase: Shikshamitras whose posts are vacant in their native school or Gram Sabha will be deployed immediately.
- Second phase: Adjustment of remaining Shikshamitras will be done on the basis of vacant posts. The government will soon issue additional guidelines for this phase.
Order came on January 3, 2025, action started now
In fact, the government order for return of Shikshamitras to their original schools was issued on January 3, 2025 itself. Detailed guidelines regarding its implementation were also issued on June 12, 2025. But due to the procrastination of officials at the district level, the process kept getting stuck. Now when Uttar Pradesh Primary Shikshamitra Sangh warned of agitation again, the government became active and issued strict orders on Tuesday night.
