IPO will break all records in 2026, companies will raise Rs 2.50 lakh crore from the stock market.

Despite the period of volatility in Indian markets, companies are moving quickly to enter the primary market, creating a pipeline of IPOs worth more than Rs 2.55 lakh crore for the coming year. The enthusiasm follows the blockbuster success of 2025, when nearly 100 Indian companies raised a record Rs 1.77 lakh crore through mainboard offerings, the highest since 2007, according to Prime Database. The special thing is that compared to the last few years, there has been a lot of increase in the speed of IPOs. In the year 2024, 91 IPOs had raised Rs 1.6 lakh crore, whereas in 2023, 57 IPOs had earned more than Rs 49,500 crore.

Long queue for 2026

For the coming year, the queue is already long and growing. 88 companies have received SEBI’s approval to launch IPOs worth about Rs 1.16 lakh crore, while 104 others are awaiting approval to raise about Rs 1.4 lakh crore. This means that IPOs of about 200 companies are ready to come in the year 2026. The eagerness to go public is evident in the unprecedented 244 misleading prospectus drafts filed in 2025—far more than the 157 prospectuses filed in 2024. Market experts say this surge is due to the positive trend of investors, active private equity and venture capital funds keen to encash assets and the broader positive environment, which makes IPOs an attractive exit route.

Despite modest gains in shares during listing, there was notable success in fund raising this year, mainly due to steady participation from foreign portfolio investors, retail buyers, high net worth individuals and mutual funds, at a time when secondary markets remained restrained. The year 2025 was also notable for large-scale withdrawal of shareholders. Promoters, PE firms and venture capital investors collectively sold shares worth over Rs 1.1 lakh crore through the offer for sale, reflecting strong demand.

Companies will raise Rs 2.55 lakh crore

Analysts believe the ambitious fund raising target of Rs 2.55 lakh crore for the new year can be easily achieved, driven by strong investor interest and a strong IPO pipeline. This optimism comes at a time when the broader market is showing signs of divergence: India’s small-cap segment, which has lagged large-cap and midcap indices this year after two consecutive years of strong gains, is expected to remain under pressure through 2026. Analysts say smallcap stocks are likely to remain weak due to high valuations, earnings shortfall and limited liquidity, although the enthusiasm around primary offers indicates that capital raising activities will remain largely unaffected by these adversities.

Why are so many IPOs coming?

Rajesh Palviya of Axis Securities said in a Money Control report that companies across all sectors, especially new and small ventures, are raising capital for expansion, starting operations or paying off liabilities. He further said that ample local liquidity and strong retail investor base has ensured strong response to almost every IPO. Palaviya said that with the strong state of the economy and the emergence of new ventures, many PE-backed companies that have received investments in recent years are now ready to raise value through mainboard listing.

IPOs will come from big companies

Investors are also keeping an eye on major companies entering the field of IPO in the coming year. There is a lot of curiosity about the IPO filing of NSE, Reliance Jio and Manipal Hospitals. PhonePe, which has already submitted draft papers for its Rs 10,000 crore issue, is one of the most awaited listings. New companies like Zepto, Boat, OffBusiness and CoreFoods can also join the IPO calendar. Analysts believe that just like in 2025, demand for IPOs with large offer-for-sale component will still remain strong.
