Road safety strengthened in UP with e-challan integration, process started in 17 districts

Yogi government is expanding the e-challan system to increase road safety in UP. Integration has started in 17 districts. AI based dashboard, accident data analysis and vehicle insurance linking aims to reduce road accidents and deaths.

Lucknow. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the e-challan process is being rapidly integrated in Uttar Pradesh to strengthen road safety and reduce accidents. Traffic Police, Transport Department and Traffic Directorate together are doing important work like expansion of e-challan portal, accident data analysis and vehicle insurance integration.

The e-challan system is being linked to the Vahan and Sarathi app, as well as an online dashboard is being created to collect accident data. There are preparations to link vehicle insurance with the e-challan system. All these steps are expected to significantly reduce road accidents and deaths resulting from them.

Integration of e-challan portal started in 17 districts

The process was implemented in 17 districts in the first phase.

The state government is implementing a detailed action plan to promote road safety. After the approval received in the meeting of the Chief Secretary, the process of e-challan integration has gained momentum in the entire state. In the first phase, integration of e-challan portal has been started in 17 districts by linking the challans of traffic police and transport department. This work is being done with the technical assistance of NIC. After completion of integration-

  • Tracking of challans will be easy
  • Immediate action can be taken against defaulting vehicle owners
  • Challan process will become transparent and technology based
  • This facility will soon be implemented in the remaining districts also.

Modern online dashboard will be made for accident data collection

Integration of all data from AI based platform

UP Transport Department has already completed the integration of all driving license related challans through Sarathi portal. Now an AI based platform is being developed to connect Vahan, Sarathi, e-DAR, i-RAID app and e-challan portal.

Along with this, an online dashboard is also being created for collection and analysis of accident data. The department has started feeding accident and challan data from all the districts through e-DAR and i-RAD app, based on which corrective steps are being implemented.

Preparation to link e-challan with vehicle insurance

Insurance premium may increase for more than five challans

The government is also working towards linking e-challan with vehicle insurance. Under the proposed scheme-

  • Vehicle insurance premium may increase due to excess challan
  • In case of an accident, the online process of treatment and compensation will be completed quickly.

Insurance companies have agreed in principle to this scheme, however, changes in premium rates will be possible only after approval from IRDAI. To further strengthen road safety, modern electronic equipment is also being provided to the traffic police and enforcement teams.

UP will become the leading state in road safety

Yogi government aims to create an effective technology-based enforcement system. Efforts like e-challan integration, accident data analysis and insurance linking will prove to be a milestone in making the state a leading model in the country in the field of road safety.
