Big relief amid Indigo crisis: Government fixed flight ticket rates, know new prices

IndiGo Crisis Airfare Cap: The government has imposed a cap on economy fares for domestic flights amid the IndiGo crisis. Now the ticket price has been fixed for flights of every distance. The purpose of this order is to protect passengers from high fares.

Flights Fare Cap: Amidst the turmoil in Indigo, the Central Government has taken a big decision. Keeping in view the problems of passengers, the government has imposed a ticket cap for domestic flights, that is, it has fixed a limit on airfares. The Civil Aviation Ministry took this decision on Saturday. The Ministry has given instructions to price the tickets according to the distance covered. The government said this cap will remain in place until fares stabilize or the next review takes place. This rule will apply equally to all online portals, airline websites and mobile apps. This cap is applicable only on the base fare. UDF, PSF and tax are separate. Business class and RCS-UDAN flights are exempt from this rule.

flight ticket fare fixed

0-500 km – Rs 7,500

500-1000 km – Rs 12,000

1000-1500 km – Rs 15,000

More than 1500 km – Rs 18,000

IndiGo crisis: Huge jump in ticket prices

Due to the new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) rules, IndiGo had to make changes in pilot and crew schedules. Thousands of flights have been canceled in the last few days. Due to this, ticket prices increased so rapidly that an increase of up to 4 times was seen on some routes. Delhi-Mumbai non-stop fare had reached Rs 65,460, Kolkata-Mumbai one-stop fare Rs 90,000, Bengaluru-New Delhi fare had reached Rs 88,000. The government has also run extra trains to help the passengers.

Surveillance and immediate action

The Civil Aviation Ministry clarified that now they will monitor the fares through real-time data and active coordination with airlines and travel platforms. Immediate action will be taken against any kind of high price or violation of rules.

Air India cap already implemented

Meanwhile, Air India said that it had already imposed a cap on economy class tickets from December 4. The purpose behind this was to prevent sudden increase in prices through the automated revenue system. The airline also said that the high-fare screenshots seen online are for one-stop or two-stop and mixed cabin tickets, where implementing the cap is technically challenging.
