Simple tips to make Chyawanprash: In winters, home made Chyawanprash is healthier than the preservative filled Chyawanprash from the market. This homemade Chyawanprash prepared from amla, ghee, jaggery and desi spices increases immunity and protects from cold and cough.
As soon as winter starts, Chyawanprash starts coming into the house. Preservatives are used along with sugar in Chyawanprash available in the market, which is not good for health. You can prepare Chyawanprash at home with the help of some simple tips. To prepare it you will need some ingredients. Using jaggery instead of sugar will increase the potency of Chyawanprash even more. Know which tips are kept in mind to make Chyawanprash at home.
Ingredients to make Chyawanprash at home
- 1 kg amla
- 2 bay leaves
- 1/2 nutmeg
- 3 long capsicum
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2” cinnamon sticks
- 1/2 g saffron
- 10-12 cloves
- 10-12 green cardamoms
- 1 tbsp dry ginger powder
- 2 sticks liquorice
- 8-10 basil leaves
- 1/2-1 cup jaggery powder (as per taste)
- 1/2 cup ghee

Make Amla Puree
Wash the Indian gooseberry, steam it, remove the seeds and make a puree. Now you have to let the Amla cool down. Till then you can prepare the spices for Chyawanprash.
Dry roast the given spices like cardamom, liquorice, nutmeg, bay leaves etc. for 30 seconds and grind them with basil leaves to make powder.
Cook Amla till it becomes glossy
Now heat ghee and add amla puree along with spice powder and cook till it becomes glossy. Then slowly add jaggery powder and cook until the mixture starts leaving the sides of the pan. Let the Chyawanprash cool and then you can store it in a glass jar for about 3 months.
Eating home-made Chyawanprash will not only increase immunity but will also prevent children from catching cold. Do not make the mistake of keeping Chyawanprash in the refrigerator, otherwise the ghee will solidify and the risk of sore throat while eating increases.
