War 2, led by Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, has received mixed reactions from critics and moviegoers. But apparently, even within the inner circle of Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe, the film is being called a “colossal disappointment.” Pathaan’s assistant director Rajvir Ashar has expressed frustration over its lack of emotional depth and weak execution.
Having worked with Siddharth Anand, who directed the original, he went on to label it the “weakest film” in YRF’s Spy Universe.
War 2 Is ‘Colossal Disappointment’: Pathaan AD
In an IG Story, he wrote, “This one was just a heartbreaking experience for me. I was rooting for this film and all it did was upset me to no degree! A mid first half is followed by a deplorable and overlong second. Neither did it have enough highs nor was it successful in resonating with me emotionally! The most ‘anticipated’ day turned out to be a ‘colossal’ disappointment. Weakest film of the universe!”

The internet seemed to agree with Ashar. “Rightly said, it’s the weakest film in spyverse.. I guess they first cast NTR and then made changes in the script to accommodate him. Even for action scenes, I guess they wanted to cater to his fans so went ott for his action scenes compared to Hrithik action scenes which felt quite odd in the movie,” wrote a netizen after a screenshot of the review was shared on a Bollywood forum.
Another user opined, “Writer put literally no effort in the movie. And on top directed by Ayaan. Replace Jr. NTR with John it makes a better script. Hrithik gets to know about John that he is still alive and goes after him and then they go after Kaali. Spy verse lacks a villain. A proper evil villain.”
