Importance of Paush month

According to the religious scriptures, the lord of the month of Paush is Lord Sun, hence in the month of Paush there is a rule to wake up early in the morning and offer water to the Sun. There are many rules regarding eating habits in this month, such as one should eat light and healthy food during this period. One should stay away from non-vegetarian food, alcohol etc. Apart from these, there is also a ban on eating things like radish, brinjal, black gram, cauliflower, lentils etc. in this month.

What measures should be taken in the month of Pausha?

1. Offer water to Sun God every morning in the month of Pausha. Also add red sandalwood and red flowers in this water. With this you can get auspicious results.
2. In the month of Paush, chant the mantras of Sun God as much as possible – Om Ghriniah Suryay Namah.
3. If possible, keep fast on every Sunday of Pausha month. If you are unable to do this then eat food without salt on Sunday.
4. In the month of Paush, things like blankets, ghee, jaggery, rice, pulses, sesame etc. should be donated to the needy.
5. Tarpan to ancestors also has special significance in the month of Paush. This reduces the effect of Pitra Dosh.
