Most flights from Delhi were canceled

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a statement that the number of canceled flights in IndiGo has increased sharply, reaching about 170-200 flights per day and this is much higher than the normal level. Based on the combined data of the country’s six major airports – Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, the airline’s punctuality rate had fallen to 19.7 percent on Wednesday, whereas it was 35 percent on December 2. Along with passengers, stakeholders of the aviation sector are also raising questions on such a huge decline in the flight management of IndiGo, which is known for operating flights on time.

When can the situation improve?

On the other hand, IndiGo on Thursday informed aviation regulator DGCA that it will reduce the number of flights from December 8 and fully stable operations will be restored by February 10, 2026. In the backdrop of the disruption in IndiGo flights in the last few days, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) held a detailed review meeting with the officials of the airline. DGCA said in a statement that wrong decisions and planning gaps in the implementation of the second phase of flight duty time limit (FDTL) norms led to disruption of flights as crew requirements exceeded expectations.
