I do not understand why and on what basis these G7 countries consider themselves great nations. Taking a jibe at the economy of Germany and Britain, Putin said that there is a recession like situation in most of the countries of Europe. Germany’s economy has been sluggish for the last three years. India is a larger and faster growing economy than the G7 countries. Putin described conferences like BRICS, SCO and G20 as more active and relevant than G8.
Why did Putin stop attending G8 meetings?
During the interview, Putin told that he had told American businessman Steve Witkoff why he stopped attending the G8 meeting. According to Putin, after the presidential elections in Russia in 2012, I started distancing myself from this platform. However, he joined it for some time in between, but later stopped it completely. G8 is a platform, it should continue to work but many other big organizations are also coming forward. As far as keeping distance from G8 is concerned, relations between Russia and European countries are not normal at present, everyone knows this. In such a situation, even if I want to go to the G8 conference, what should I talk to them, when they are not comfortable talking to me. I mean, if there is no desire for dialogue among the member countries, then how can meaningful dialogue take place in such a meeting.
