In the Ashes series between Australia and England, there are always some such scenes which surprise anyone. Be it players, experts or fans, such scenes are recorded forever in everyone’s mind. A batsman’s century or a bowler’s hat-trick or someone’s 5-7 wickets are recorded in the pages of history but there are some occasions which do not create any records but they prove to be the most memorable. A similar moment came on the first day of the Brisbane Test match, when Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey, despite all the difficulties, took a surprising catch and brought great success to the team.
The second test match of the Ashes series started in Brisbane from 4 November. On the first day of the match, Joe Root scored an excellent century, which was his first on Australian soil. The fast bowler continued his magic with the pink ball in the day-night test match. Mitchell Starc Once again showed his talent and took 6 wickets. But while these two giants grabbed all the limelight, Alex Carey displayed his agility, agility and fitness.
Collided, fell but Carey did not drop the catch
All this happened in the 67th over of England’s innings. Mitchell Starc’s second ball of this over was a bouncer and it was hooked by Gus Atkinson but it took the top edge of the bat and rose high in the air behind the wicket. After running back about 15-20 meters, both of them dived but during this Labuschagne hit Carey.
Due to the dive and this collision, both the players fell on the field, which disappointed the Australian fans for a second. Everyone thought that the catch was dropped but Alex Carey proved it wrong. Keeping his eyes on the ball till the last moment, Carey took the catch and despite the collision, did not let it come out of his gloves. This amazing fielding blew everyone’s senses.
Starc completed 5 wickets
While England lost its 8th wicket on the basis of Carey’s feat, Starc completed his 5 wickets. This was the 18th time in Test cricket, when Starc took 5 wickets in an innings, while in the day-night Test match and against England, he did the feat of taking 5 wickets in an innings for the sixth time. After this, Starc also took the sixth wicket and ended the day with 6 wickets for 71 runs in 19 overs. For the second consecutive match in this series, Starc has taken 5 or more wickets in an innings. He took 7 dismissals in the first innings of the Perth Test.
