Solar revolution in Ayodhya: Registration increased in PM Surya Ghar Yojana, Barabanki on top

PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme is progressing rapidly to promote solar energy in Ayodhya. More than 33,000 registrations and more than 16,000 solar connections have been made in Ayodhya division. Subsidy and low electricity bills have increased enthusiasm among the people.

Ayodhya. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Ayodhya is being developed as a solar energy city in accordance with the tradition of Suryavansh. Its effect is visible in the entire Ayodhya division. A large number of people are taking solar connections. So far this year, 33,269 people have registered and more than 16,000 consumers have received connections. Maximum registrations and connections have taken place in Barabanki, while Ayodhya is at second place.

People’s interest increased in PM Surya Ghar free electricity scheme

In view of the increasing needs of electricity, the Central Government has started PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme so that people can get adequate amount of electricity at home. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced to make Ayodhya a solar city. In this direction, UPNEDA has prepared a 40 MW solar plant. Apart from this, door-to-door awareness campaign is being run by Solar Sakhi for installing solar in every house.

What is PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme?

  • To install 1 kilowatt solar rooftop, approximately 10 square meters of shade-free roof is required.
  • A 1 KW plant produces 4–5 units of electricity per day.
  • After the consumer uses the remaining electricity, it is sent to the grid.
  • This is adjusted in the electricity bill through netmetering.
  • The cost of a solar plant is usually recovered through electricity bill savings in 3–4 years.

Central and state governments are giving huge subsidies

Subsidy Rates (Centre + State)

i) 1 Kilowatt:

  • Centre: ₹30,000
  • State: ₹15,000
  • Total: ₹45,000

ii) 2 KW:

  • Centre: ₹60,000
  • State: ₹30,000
  • Total: ₹90,000

iii) 3 KW:

  • Centre: ₹78,000
  • State: ₹30,000
  • Total: ₹1,08,000

The estimated cost of a 1–10 kW capacity plant is ₹60,000–₹65,000 per kW. Under the scheme, the subsidy is sent directly to the consumer’s account.

How to get the benefits of the scheme?

  • Citizens have to apply online at pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
  • To make the application process easier, the Central Government has also made available a mobile app.
  • Bank loan is also available for solar installation, for which many banks have been listed on the portal.
  • Discom and district wise targets are fixed, so that the scheme can be implemented rapidly.

People’s Experience: Bills are low and subsidies are on time.

“Subsidy received, electricity bill also very low”

Kripa Shankar Srivastava, a resident of Nirala Nagar, Ayodhya, said that after installing three kilowatt solar panels, the electricity bill is coming down considerably. He has received both subsidies from the central and state governments.

“Planning to take another 3 KW connection”

Krishna Kumar, who lives near Nanak School, Raebareli Road, said that after the installation of a three kilowatt panel, power production has increased. Subsidy has also been received, and now they are thinking of taking another 3 KW connection.
