Two women died due to gas leak in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad, sparking anger among the local people. They blocked the road alleging negligence. The administration is engaged in relief work and BCCL has declared the area unsafe.
Dhanbad (Jharkhand): Two women died due to gas leak in Kenduadih area of Dhanbad district of Jharkhand on Thursday. After this, huge anger spread among the local people. Angry villagers blocked the Dhanbad-Ranchi main road and burnt tires accusing the district administration and BCCL management of negligence. He demanded immediate action. General Manager of PB Area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) G. Saha said, “Don’t stay in such a place. Constant exposure to the gas can cause harm to the body… We are doing whatever is necessary on this… This settlement was settled after earlier mining operations… This is a fire-prone area, and we have been declaring it unsafe for years…” Saha said.
Kenduadih station in-charge Pramod Pandey said that efforts are on to stop the gas leak as soon as possible. All arrangements have been made to provide medical facilities and other services to the needy people. We took BCCL’s gas detector team to every house and checked all the surrounding areas… We made announcements everywhere to spread awareness. Medical team is engaged. District administration is also involved. Efforts are on to stop this as soon as possible. We have made arrangements to provide all medical facilities including ambulance and other services at the police station.”
Earlier in November, two people reportedly died due to poisonous gas leak in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district, while several others were hospitalized. According to the police, a family of four lived on the ground floor of a rented house in Pritam Vihar Colony of Mandir police station area of Gola in the district. The landlord had kept some wheat with pesticide tablets near their room, and late at night poisonous gas came out from it, due to which all four members of the family became unconscious.
A 4-year-old boy died the same day, while a 15-year-old girl died during treatment two days later. Upon receiving the information, the police started investigation with a team of experts, removed the poisonous substance and sealed the house. Apart from this, the police also registered a case against the landlord and arrested him.
