How often has Putin come to India?

October 2000

Putin made his first visit to India after becoming President. He stayed in India from 2-5 October. This visit further strengthened the foundation of partnership between the two countries.

December 2002

This time the focus of the visit was to further strengthen technology, defense and space. During this visit from 3-4 December, he met the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and President APJ Abdul Kalam. Many big agreements were signed between the two countries.

December 2004

October 2016

The 8th BRICS Summit was held in Goa on 15–17 October 2016. Putin arrived to attend it. During his visit, an agreement was reached to provide 5 S-400 missile systems to India. This defense deal is considered historic for India’s security system.

October 2018

The Russian President came to India to attend the 19th India-Route Summit on 4-5 October. During this, both the countries set a target of increasing India-Russia trade to ₹25.55 lakh crore by 2030.

December 2021
