A few hours before Putin will reach New Delhi at 6:35 pm on December 4, pictures of people performing aarti for the Russian leader are going viral on social media.

Slogans raised “India-Russia friendship zindabad”

In a video shared by ANI on Twitter, some locals of Varanasi are seen performing aarti in front of Putin’s picture. In the clip, some people are also seen waving Indian flags along with a banner reading “India-Russia friendship Zindabad”, which also has pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Putin shaking hands. Later, the group is seen marching on the streets raising slogans in support of the two leaders.

ANI wrote on Twitter, “Ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India, people are performing aarti and taking out welcome march in Varanasi.”

The video also reflected the Indian people’s attachment to Russia, while drawing criticism online. One user joked, “This is what happens when ‘International Relations’ taught by Forward Aunty is included in the syllabus of WhatsApp University.” Another said, “Please don’t do this… I have to bear the embarrassment of others.”
