US Mass Shooting Plot: Who was planning bloodshed on US campus and why? The cache of weapons from the car of Pakistani-origin Lukman Khan and words like “kill everyone” in the notebook surprised the investigating agencies. Has a major attack been averted?
US Pakistani-Origin Man Arrested: A case has come to light in America which has shaken people. Lukman Khan, a 25-year-old American citizen of Pakistani origin living in Delaware, was arrested while planning to commit a mass shooting on the school campus. This was no ordinary arrest – a cache of guns, ammunition, body armor and a dangerously hand-written notebook with words like “kill all” and “martyrdom” were found in his car. According to the US DoJ (Department of Justice), the material found with Khan indicates a major attack. His notes included the use of weapons, methods of modifying weapons, techniques for escaping from the police after an attack, and even the layout of the University of Delaware building. This incident has alerted the entire American security system and the FBI has intensified the investigation of the case.
What was found in Lukman Khan’s car?
Luqman Khan is said to be a student of the University of Delaware. Police found him in a suspicious condition in his pickup truck in a park on the evening of 24 November. When the vehicle was searched, it was revealed:
- A .357 caliber Glock handgun
- Three magazines filled with 27 rounds
- One Glock 9mm magazine
- A conversion kit that converts a pistol into a semi-automatic rifle
- a ballistic body armor plate
- And a marble notebook—the most dangerous clue
With a conversion kit and extra magazines this weapon could be converted to a rifle in minutes. It was written in the notebook how to use the weapons, which weapon would be effective in which situation, and what would be the ways to escape from the police after the attack. The layout of UD Police Station was made in the notebook, in which entry, exit points and possible attack routes were shown.
What was in Luqman’s notebook? Was this a completely planned mass attack?
As ABC 6 reports, his notebook wasn’t just about weapons. There was:
- “kill all”
- “Martyrdom”
- attack strategy
- Law-enforcement evasion techniques
According to the police, it was “pre-planning of the attack” and there was “war technology” hidden in every line of it.
Was Luqman influenced by any radical ideas?
Did he want to target any particular person or organization? Or was it personal agenda? The FBI is still searching for answers to these questions.
What else was found in the FBI raid? Had he built a ‘fully automatic’ machine gun?
After his arrest, the FBI raided his Wilmington home. Found there-
- AR-style rifle with red-dot scope
- A second Glock pistol
- An illegal device that turned the weapon into a fully automatic machine gun (1,200 rounds/minute)
- 11 extended magazine
- Hollow-point bullet (highly lethal)
- a bulletproof vest
The most surprising thing-None of these weapons were registered.
Could this attack have happened any day? When did the police get the first clue?
Officials say that Khan was preparing for a major attack. The notebook, the quality of the weapons, the modification kit and the layout of the police station – all point towards a possible mass shooting. After his arrest, Khan told police that “becoming a martyr is one of the greatest things,” the report said. This statement has made the investigation more serious.
What is the situation now?
He has been charged with illegal possession of a machine gun on November 26. He is still in jail and the FBI continues to investigate.
