Baghpat: The policies of the Yogi Adityanath government based on the prosperity of farmers and direct communication in Uttar Pradesh are now giving concrete results. After the first Chaupal held in Meetli village on Monday, the Krishi Chaupal organized in Hisavda village of Baghpat on Wednesday presented a new proof of active participation and confidence of the farmers. Timely payment and financial security to sugarcane farmers

The impact of the achievements of the Sugar Industry and Sugarcane Development Department is now clearly visible in the economy of the villages. Farmers, who were earlier troubled due to closure of mills and delay in payments, are now moving towards self-reliance by receiving payments on time. Sugarcane prices have been continuously increased since 2017, which has increased the production enthusiasm and profits of farmers. Farmers appeared more suggestion oriented in Hisavda’s Chaupal. He gave concrete feedback on timeliness of sugarcane harvesting, process of issuing slips and other administrative reforms. This initiative proves that farmers are not just beneficiaries, but are also becoming active participants in policy making.

Greater influence of Chaupals in Western Uttar Pradesh

Chaupals organized in the villages of Baghpat, Hapur, Shamli and Muzaffarnagar gave the message that the government is listening to everything of the farmers and is deciding the next steps on that basis. Uttar Pradesh has become an example for other states in capacity expansion of sugar mills, establishment of CBG plants and sugarcane based ethanol production. The number of ethanol distilleries was 61 in 2017, which has now increased to 97. 4 new distilleries are proposed. Ethanol production increased from 41.28 crore liters to 182 crore litres. This strengthened the rural economy and the benefits of the farmers reached their accounts directly.

Tremendous increase in sugarcane payment

The sugarcane payment from 2007 to 2017 was Rs 147,346 crore, which has reached Rs 290,225 crore since 2017. Additional payment of Rs 142,879 crore reached directly into the accounts of farmers. The sugarcane area has also increased from 20 lakh hectares in 2016-17 to 29.51 lakh hectares now. Sugarcane price is also proposed to be Rs 400 per quintal for early variety and Rs 390 per quintal for normal variety, which will provide additional profit of Rs 3,000 crore to farmers.

Partnership between farmers and government in rural development

This rural development model of Uttar Pradesh is based on active participation of farmers and direct communication system. This voice rising from Baghpat proves that farmers are no longer dependent on middlemen, but are playing an effective role in government policy making. Due to the initiative of Yogi government, the wind of change is becoming the basis of real development in every village.
