In Kanpur, a bride was thrown out of the house 24 hours after her marriage. The reason was the demand for dowry of Rs 2 lakh or a Bullet bike, which she refused to accept. The victim has lodged a police complaint against her in-laws.
Kanpur: Not even 24 hours had passed after the wedding when a groom threw his new bride out of the house. The reason was that the bride had refused to put pressure on her family to bring Rs 2 lakh as dowry or a Royal Enfield Bullet bike. This incident is from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. When the bride reached her in-laws’ house after the marriage, her husband and in-laws started pressurizing her for dowry. According to Muslim customs, Lubna and Mohammad Imran were married on 29 November. Both are residents of Juhi area of Kanpur. When Lubna reached her in-laws’ house with dreams of a new life after marriage, she came to know that the truth was something else. She was accused of not bringing anything special for Imran.
Goods worth lakhs were given as wedding gifts.
She was told that if she could not bring a bullet for Imran, then she should ask her family members to get Rs 2 lakh. Lubna alleges that her in-laws also removed her jewelery and also snatched away the money received from her maternal home. After this he was beaten and thrown out of the house. Lubna reached her home alone at around 7 pm. Her father Mahtab told that when he inquired, he came to know about the harassment for dowry. Lubna’s family says that they spent lakhs of rupees on their daughter’s marriage, yet they have to face all this.
The girl’s family told that they had given sofa, TV, washing machine, dressing table, water cooler, silver and brass utensils and clothes as per the list given by Imran’s family. The girl’s family members say that there was no demand for Bullet at the time of marriage. In this case, the girl has lodged a complaint with the police and has demanded the return of the wedding expenses as well as the items given as gifts.
