In Madhya Pradesh, 7.31 lakh hectare new irrigation potential was developed in two years. The target is to take it to 8.44 lakh hectares by 2026. 5.97 lakh hectare area will be irrigated through river linking project in the state. Many big projects are progressing at a fast pace.
Bhopal. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that in the last two years, new irrigation capacity has been developed in 7.31 lakh hectare area in the state. The target is to increase this capacity to 8.44 lakh hectares by the year 2026. The government aims to increase the irrigation area to 100 lakh hectares. For this, regular review of projects will be done using the Prime Minister Gatishakti Portal.
River linking project gets momentum
In the review meeting of the Water Resources Department and Narmada Valley Development Department, the CM directed that the plans to link rivers in the state should be expedited. He said that the approval of Parvati-Kali-Sindh, Chambal and Ken-Betwa interstate link projects is a big achievement for the state.
Survey of river linking projects completed in various districts
It was informed in the meeting that survey has been conducted in many districts under the river linking scheme in the state.
- Kanh-Gambhir (Ujjain)
- Kalisindh-Chambal (Mandsaur, Neemuch, Ujjain)
- Ken-Mandakini (Satna)
- Sugar-Pench and Doodhi-Tamiya (Seoni, Chhindwara)
- Jamner-Nevan and Nevan-Bina (Raisen)
With the implementation of all these schemes, irrigation facilities will increase in about 5.97 lakh hectare area. Their total estimated cost is Rs 9870 crore and thousands of farmers in seven districts will be benefited.
Formation of technical team for water management
A technical team has been formed on 13 November 2024 for flood control, water conservation and increasing water availability in river basins in the state. This team will prepare a strategy for linking rivers and water management.
Construction of new reservoirs on Bhopal Lake model
CM directed that after studying the ancient water storage technology of Bhopal lake, a plan should be prepared to build a safe reservoir and dam at low cost on the same model. He also asked to present demo of these models.
Progress report of projects given to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav
The status of many big projects was informed in the review meeting-
- Sewarkhedi-Silarkhedi Project (Ujjain)
Cost: Rs 614.53 crore, progress: 48%
- Kanh Diversion Close Duct Project (Ujjain)
Cost: Rs 919.94 crore, progress: 42%
- Ghat construction work for Simhastha 2028
Cost: Rs 778.91 crore.
Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silavat, Chief Secretary Anurag Jain and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
