The energy and renewable energy sector is expanding rapidly in Madhya Pradesh. With Omkareshwar floating solar, Morena storage project and rooftop solar schemes, 60 million tonnes of carbon emissions have been reduced in the state. More than 76 thousand houses are illuminated with solar energy.
Bhopal. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the performance of Madhya Pradesh in the energy sector is remarkable. It is the priority of the government to make the new and renewable energy sector the best along with the traditional energy. He was taking detailed information from the officials in the review meeting of the Energy and Renewable Energy Department. Energy Minister Rakesh Shukla, Chief Secretary Anurag Jain and senior officials were present in the meeting.
Increased capacity through floating solar and solar park projects
It was informed in the meeting that Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project has been successfully established in October 2024. Along with this, Indian Railways is also using the electricity generated from the solar parks of Agar, Shajapur and Neemuch. These projects have provided employment to local people and reduced carbon emissions by more than 60 million tonnes in the state.
First solar storage project in Morena
Morena Solar cum Storage Project will be the first such project in the state which will provide energy storage facility. Through this, the government will save about Rs 180 crore every year. All work of this project is expected to be completed by the year 2027.
Discussion on solar energy based schemes for farmers
In the meeting, detailed discussions were held on Solar Pump Scheme, Surya Mitra Agricultural Feeder Scheme and Kusum-A Scheme. 15 developers have been allotted different districts for renewable energy development in the state. A target has been set to develop 48 MW capacity on approximately 1300 government buildings.
Boom in rooftop solar energy
The citizens of the state are also taking great advantage of the rooftop solar scheme. At present solar plants are installed in more than 76 thousand residential units, with a total capacity of about 3 lakh kilowatts. Survey work for rooftop solar scheme is in progress in all 55 districts.
Solar plant installation under Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana
Under Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana, solar plants along with batteries have been installed in more than one thousand houses in 11 districts. This is making clean and cheap energy available to rural homes.
