Exclusive | Debutante Rishita Kothari on her transition from influencer to actor

Influencer Rishita Kothari is stepping into the world of television with her debut as the lead character Seher in Seher Hone Ko Hai. In an exclusive conversation with mid-day, she opens up about the depth of her character, her transition from digital content creation to acting, and the overwhelming support she has received on set.

Talking about Seher, Rishita describes her as “a very hopeful girl” who dreams big despite her circumstances. “She dreams to become a doctor. Her biggest support in life is that she has her mom with her. Wo apni ammi ke liye jeeti hai. Toh chahti hai ki uske saare sapne poore kare jo uske maa nahin kar payi,” she shares. Seher’s world revolves around her mother, who is the only one who has understood and supported her aspirations. “Uski maa ne hi uski dreams ko samjha hai,” Rishita adds.

Seher is layered, vulnerable yet brave. “Us character mein bahut depth hai. Wo dardti bhi hai par wo haarthi bhi nahi hai. Uske andar ek inner strength bhi hai… full upfront hai, thodi mischief bhi hai.”

The show’s promo highlights Seher’s struggle between a controlling father and an encouraging mother. Rishita explains, “Abbu… he’s a proper patriarchy set-up personality. He doesn`t want me to study. He thinks that if I ever get a chance, I might get rebellious and go against the society.” Her mother, however, pushes back against this mindset. “My mom, who has been a victim to this, never wanted me to be the same person. She’s fighting for me… looking for ways to protect me from my dad and make me achieve my dream.”

On working with co-star Mahi, she beams with admiration. “It’s such an honor to work with her. She is an amazing person… so helpful. As a debutant, I felt it’s going to be tricky for me… but she made me feel comfortable from day one.”

Transitioning from influencer to actor came with its own set of challenges. “It felt like a dicey switch,” Rishita admits. “I used to do things on my own… and here it’s a completely different scenario. I have so many layers to my character. But everybody has made me feel so comfortable.”

She credits her director for guiding her through the process. “I’m blessed to have Mansar as a director. He briefs every character so well that you already get into the character… that has helped me handle my role.”

The shift has been transformative. “Everything is different now… it’s like I’ve come back to school again to learn. Every day is a learning for me. It’s exciting.”

With her passion, sincerity, and humility, Rishita Kothari’s debut as Seher promises to be a compelling journey both on and off screen.
