NCERT NEW MODULES PARTITION TRAREDY: NCERT has prepared a new history module for students from middle to secondary class, which will be taught the tragedy of India-Pakistan Partition of 1947. In this, people responsible for partition have also been told.

NCERT Partition Horrors MOODULES 2025: Even after 78 years of independence, India’s partition is considered to be the most painful chapter in our history. Keeping this in mind, NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) has issued two new special modules for classes 6 to 8 and 9 to 12. These modules described how India-Pakistan partition changed the lives of millions in 1947 and what we should learn from that time. In fact, the Central Government has declared Partition Horrors Remembrance Day (Partition Vibhashika Memorial Day) on 14 August. The aim is to understand how many violence, displacement and sorrows have to be faced due to the partition.

Who was responsible for the partition told in the new NCERT module?

It is clearly written in these NCERT modules that India was not divided due to any one person, but three parties were responsible for this-

  • Mohammad Ali Jinnah, who demands partition.
  • Congress party that accepts this demand.
  • Lord Mountbatten that applies it.

What did the British government want about India’s independence and partition?

The British government did not want India’s partition initially. He wanted India to get independence, but as a “dominion status”. That is, Indians lived and real power for the name of British King. The Congress turned down this plan. After this, the situation became such that Bantwara was considered the only way.

Result of thinking and sharing of immediate leaders

Sardar Patel was earlier against partition, but later he said that it is better to be divided by the civil war. Mahatma Gandhi was against partition, but in the end, he also gave up objections in view of the situation. Lord Mountbatten admitted that he made a hurry and decreased from June 1948 to August 1947. The result was that the boundaries were divided incomplete and in a hurry.

Kashmir and terrorism also mention in module

The module also states that Hindu-Muslim tension did not end completely after the partition. At the same time, the issue of Kashmir also came up, which later became a big challenge for India due to terrorism and international pressure.

Special things about NCERT’s new module

The new NCERT module states how the partition between 1947 and 1950 shook India’s unity. The economy of Punjab and Bengal was destroyed. Millions of people lost their lives and crores of people became homeless. The social and economic condition of Jammu and Kashmir weakened.

Why is NCERT’s special module not involved in regular books?

Let us know that these modules of NCERT are not part of the regular course. They are taught to children on a particular occasion. Students understand them through posters, discussions and debates. Recently “Operation Sindoor” was also included in a module.

PM Modi’s message in special module

The special module begins with the message of PM Narendra Modi. He had said- “Partition pain can never be forgotten. Millions of families were destroyed, many people lost their lives. In his memory we will celebrate Partition on 14 August as Vibhisika Memorial Day.”

Political parties reactions to NCERT’s new module

The Congress alleged that the truth in the module is said to be incomplete and it is not right to put all the responsibility on the Congress and Jinnah. Asaduddin Owaisi said that Muslims are being incorrectly blamed. At the same time, AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said that Jinnah, RSS and Hindu Mahasabha were supporters of all three partitions, so everyone should also take responsibility.

New interpretation of Mughal period recently added in Class 8 syllabus

A new interpretation of the Mughal period was also added to the syllabus of class 8 last month. It mentions the religious decisions of the Mughal rulers and the incidents of breaking the temples. NCERT says that history cannot be hidden, but we can make a better future by learning from its mistakes.
