About 46-47% of the total protein consumption in rural India comes from grains, while in urban India this share is about 39%. How much protein intake increased in rural and urban areas?
If we talk about protein intake, then in recent years its graph has gone up. According to data from Household Consumption Expenditure Surveyy, a person used to consume about 62 grams of protein per day in rural areas by 2022. But now this figure has increased to more than 66 grams. This means that awareness about nutrition in people’s plate in villages has increased and they are including more protein -rich things like lentils, milk, eggs or other things.

According to the survey, in 2022, where the urban person was taking about 63.2 grams of protein per day, it has increased to 69.9 grams by 2023-24. That is, about 7 grams of protein intake has increased in urban areas. From this you can guess that in urban areas people are becoming aware of health awareness, gym, fitness culture and protein supplements and making protein an important part of their diet. Overall, both rural and urban areas are seeing positive changes in protein intake.
