Venezuela declared drug smuggler, reward doubled on Maduro

Describing President Maduro as the world’s biggest drug smuggler, the Trump administration had earlier kept a reward of Rs 217 crore, which was increased to Rs 435 crore in August (2025). A New York court filed a case against Maduro in 2020 on charges of cocaine smuggling and narco terrorism. The Trump administration alleged that Maduro supplies cocaine to America in collaboration with Venezuelan drug cartels. On this, Maduro warned that if Trump has courage then show it.

Interestingly, America itself has been buying oil from the Venezuelan oil industry on which it has imposed sanctions. However, in March this year, Trump had announced that we will impose a tariff of 25 percent on any country that buys oil or gas from Venezuela. Through this strategy, Trump tried to control Venezuela’s oil industry but failed. This is also a reason for Trump’s irritation.
