2 killed when government bus-11 collided head-on in Tamil Nadu, PM Modi expressed grief and announced compensation

11 people died and 20+ injured when two buses collided in Sivagangai, Tamil Nadu. PM Modi announced an assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. The state government also announced a relief amount of Rs 3 lakh.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed grief over the death of at least 11 people who were killed in a collision between two government buses in Tamil Nadu’s Sivagangai district a day earlier. He wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and announced an assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the families of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

PM Modi said, “The loss of lives in the accident in Sivagangai, Tamil Nadu is very sad. My condolences are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. An assistance of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the family of each deceased from PMNRF. Rs 50,000 will be given to the injured.”

On November 30, around 5 pm, a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus going from Kangeyam to Karaikudi collided head-on with another government bus going from Karaikudi to Dindigul. So far, 11 people have been confirmed dead and more than 20 people are said to be injured. Police said the injured have been admitted to Karaikudi Government Hospital, Tirupattur Government Hospital and Sivagangai Government Hospital for treatment.

According to the relief package announced by Chief Minister MK Stalin, the families of the deceased also received Rs 3 lakh each from state ministers Sivasankar and KR Periya Karuppan. Stalin expressed grief over the deaths in the tragedy and said that he had immediately sent Sivagangai District Collector and district in-charge minister KR Periyakruppan to the accident site so that all the affected people could get proper medical help.
