Mokshada Ekadashi 2025: Today is the fast of Mokshada Ekadashi. This fast is observed on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha month. On this day, Lord Vishnu is also worshiped with rituals. Damodar form of Lord Vishnu is worshiped on Ekadashi. Worshiping Lord Vishnu and fasting on this day opens the doors to salvation. Salvation is attained after death.
By fasting on Mokshada Ekadashi, one gets special blessings of Lord Vishnu. Worshiping and fasting of Lord Vishnu on the day of Mokshada Ekadashi makes life happy. All the troubles of life go away. On the day of Mokshada Ekadashi, Vrat Katha must be recited during the puja. On this day, the puja is not considered complete without reciting the fast story. Reading the fast story on this day gives freedom from the cycle of life and death.
Mokshada Ekadashi fasting story (Mokshada Ekadashi Fast Story)
According to mythological texts, Gokul city was ruled by a king named Vaikhanas. One night when the king was sleeping, he saw his late father in his dream. The king saw that his father had gone to hell. The king saw that his father was suffering the hardships caused by Yamraj. After this, when the king woke up from sleep in the morning, he was sad and restless. Then the king called the scholars and ministers.
After this the king told everyone about his dream. The king also asked everyone to find a solution to free his father from hell. Vaikhanas asked all the people in the court about the solution to liberate his father from hell. The king’s courtiers told him about the mountain sage. Also said that the sage can tell him the solution to his problem. The king went to the mountain sage.
The king told all his troubles to the mountain sage. With the power of his penance, the sage saw the entire life of the king’s father. Then he told the king why his father had to suffer in hell. After this the king asked the sage for a solution to his father’s salvation. The sage told the king that since it is Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi, observe fast and worship Lord Vishnu with rituals.
The sage told the king that this is the Ekadashi that gives salvation. Resolve the virtue of fasting and donate it to your father. This will liberate your father from hell. After this, King Vaikhanas observed Mokshada Ekadashi fast and worshiped Vishnu form Damodar ritually. The next day during Parana, the virtue of the fast was donated by taking a pledge in the name of the father. Then by the grace of Shri Hari Vishnu the king’s father got freedom from hell.
