Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav reviewed the irrigation projects and gave instructions to provide irrigation facilities to six lakh hectares of land and to speed up Sleemanabad Tunnel and big projects.
Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav conducted a detailed review of the works of Narmada Valley Development and Water Resources Department in the Ministry on June 25. In the meeting, he gave clear instructions that the expansion of irrigation facilities should be given top priority during the Farmer Welfare Year. He said that it is the main responsibility of the government to provide timely irrigation facilities to the farmers.
It was informed in the meeting that the construction work of many important irrigation projects in 14 districts of the state has been completed. Preparations for the inauguration of these projects are in the final stages. These projects will be inaugurated within the next six months, which will connect approximately 6 lakh hectares of additional land with irrigation facilities.
Irrigation projects of 14 districts will be inaugurated
Officials informed in the meeting that the projects proposed to be inaugurated during the Farmer Welfare Year include irrigation projects of various districts including Barwani, Sehore, Shajapur, Dewas, Jhabua, Dhar, Khandwa, Khargone, Alirajpur, Rajgarh, Jabalpur, Katni and Mandla. The Chief Minister directed to dedicate these projects to the public in a time-bound manner so that farmers can get benefits quickly.
Ken-Mandakini link project will increase irrigation and power production
It was informed in the meeting that the proposal for Ken-Mandakini Link Interstate Irrigation Project has been sent to the Government of India. Through this project, new irrigation capacity will be developed in 93 thousand 310 hectare area. Besides, 15.8 MW electricity can also be produced. Under the project, a 20 kilometer long tunnel will be constructed. Its estimated cost will be more than Rs 8,400 crore.
Review of progress of projects related to Simhastha 2028
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav also reviewed the progress of various projects related to Simhastha Mahaparva. It was informed in the meeting that 82 percent work of Sewarkhedi-Silarkhedi project has been completed. Whereas 66 percent work in Kanh Diversion Closed Duct Project has been completed. Apart from this, construction of about 29 km long ghats on the banks of Shipra river is going on at a fast pace. So far 60 percent work has been completed in this project, which will provide convenient bathing facilities to crores of devotees during Simhastha.
Irrigated area is increasing rapidly in Madhya Pradesh
It was told in the meeting that the irrigated area in the state is continuously increasing. After getting the benefits of the projects currently under construction and completed, the irrigated area of Madhya Pradesh will increase to 95.45 lakh hectares. If other approved projects are also included, this figure can reach 108 lakh hectares. Officials said that in the last two and a half years, about 10 lakh hectare area has been connected with irrigation facilities.
Rehabilitation work intensifies in Ken-Betwa river linking project
It was informed in the meeting that through the Ken-Betwa Interstate River Linking Project, 8.11 lakh hectare area in 10 districts of Bundelkhand region will get annual irrigation facility. With this, 130 MW power generation will also be possible. Under the project, awards have been issued under the special package for land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement and about 90 percent payment has also been made. Apart from this, construction of Chakarpur and Madiya dams in Bina Complex Multi-Purpose Project has been completed. The modified Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal interstate river linking project will provide irrigation facilities to 6.16 lakh hectare area in 13 districts of the state.
The reconstruction work of the damaged Karam Dam in the year 2022 was also reviewed in the meeting. Officials said that the reconstruction work which started from the year 2024 is almost completed. The Chief Minister also reviewed other projects including the Fourth Dam Project (Chhindwara Irrigation Complex).
One and a half thousand villages will get the benefit of irrigation from Sleemanabad Tunnel.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav directed to quickly complete the preparations for the inauguration of the important Sleemanabad Tunnel connecting the Amrit Dhara of Narmada to the Son River. Through this trans-valley canal system built under the Bargi Diversion Project, about 2.5 lakh hectares of agricultural land in about 1,500 villages of Jabalpur, Katni, Satna, Maihar, Rewa and Panna districts will get irrigation facility.
Farmers will get huge benefits from this canal which has the highest water carrying capacity of 227 cumec in the state. The water flow capacity of this approximately 11.952 km long tunnel is 152 cumec and its diameter is 10.140 meters. This project, under construction for about one and a half decade, is now almost complete and will play an important role in providing water to the fields of farmers.
