US Open: Bopanna, Sutjiadi progress to quarterfinals, set to face Ebden-Krejcikova

India’s Rohan Bopanna progressed to the quarterfinals of the US Open Mixed doubles alongside partner Aldila Sutjiadi on Sunday, September 1 at Court 12. The duo beat the pair of John Peers and Katerina Siniakova by 0-6, 7-6(5), 10-7.

Bopanna and Sutjiadi didn’t have a good start as they were hammered 0-6 in the first set with Peers and Siniakova breaking them thrice. However, the Indian-Indonesian duo fought back bravely in the second set as both pairs got involved in a neck-to-neck battle.

As the second set got tied on 6-6, it was forced into a tie-breaker where Bopanna and Sutjiadi took the honours by 7-5 to seal the set. With both pairs having one set each to their names, the match further progressed to a tie-break where the Indian-Indonesian pair beat the Australian-Czech pair winning by 10-7 and progressed ahead to the quarterfinals.

As a result, as he sets up to face his men’s doubles partner Matthew Ebden in the next game. The Australian will be alongside Czech player Barbora Krejcikova as he prepares himself to face his mate on September 3.
