These days, if everyone is waiting for one debut, it is that of Vaibhav Suryavanshi. This 15 year old young batsman from India has attracted the attention of the whole world with his explosive batting. He may make his debut in the T20 match against Ireland on 26 June. But just a day before this, a special debut of a young batsman from India took place, who showed his magic as soon as he came. This batsman is Sheikh Rashid, who made his debut for India-A and scored a half-century on the first day of the unofficial test match against Sri Lanka-A.
Opportunity to debut for India A
While everyone’s eyes are on the T20 series going to be held between India and Ireland, just a day before that the Test match started in Sri Lanka. In this unofficial test match with the status of first class cricket, the Indian team came under the captaincy of Dhruv Jurel. The very first day of the match was in the name of the Indian team, which batted first and scored 333 runs after losing 4 wickets with the help of star batsman Sai Sudarshan’s century.
The star of the first day of this match being played in Galle was left-handed batsman Sai Sudarshan, who scored a powerful century, but this match was more special for young batsman Sheikh Rashid. Rashid has made a special mark in the last few seasons by playing for Andhra in domestic cricket. Rashid, who was a part of the Indian team that won the Under-19 World Cup, got the reward of his strong performance in domestic cricket in the form of selection in India-A and he did not disappoint.
Rashid played a strong innings on the first day itself
The top order gave a good start to India A but not a single big partnership was seen. When the team lost the wicket of Sudarshan at the score of 217, 21 year old Rashid entered the crease and from here he along with captain Jurel handled the innings. Meanwhile, Rashid also completed his half-century just before the end of the day’s play. This is his first half-century in the first innings for India-A. He along with captain Jurel made an unbeaten partnership of 116 runs.
