Uttar Pradesh achieved 1 GW capacity under Suryaghar free power scheme. Solar rooftops have been installed in 2.90 lakh houses in the state. With a subsidy of Rs 2,600 crore, 4,200 vendors and 50,000 employment, UP is rapidly moving towards energy self-sufficiency.
Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh has achieved another major success in the field of renewable energy. Under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme, the state has set a new example in the country by completing 1 GW capacity by 27 November 2025. This achievement is the result of increasing awareness towards clean energy, good planning and effective implementation.
Yogi government’s progress towards energy self-sufficiency
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, work is being done continuously regarding energy self-reliance. Due to his initiative and transparent system, today solar rooftop systems have been installed in more than 2.90 lakh houses in the state. This has benefited people from electricity savings, additional income and also saved about 4,000 acres of land, which can be used in other projects.
Financial support from central and state government
Under the scheme, so far a subsidy of about Rs 2,000 crore has been given to consumers by the Government of India and Rs 600 crore by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. This financial assistance has reduced the expenditure on the people and has ensured large participation in the scheme.
50 times increase in the number of vendors
As a result of the government’s smooth and transparent policy, there were only 81 registered vendors at the beginning of the scheme, which has increased to 4,200. This rapidly increasing number of vendors has improved installation services, technical support and the speed of the entire process. Additionally, consumers have access to more choices and better service.
New employment opportunities and strengthening of the local economy
This scheme has also made a big contribution in the field of employment. Around 50,000 new jobs have been generated so far in solar panel manufacturing, installation, monitoring and service sectors. This has strengthened the local economy and created new opportunities for the youth.
Aim to deliver green energy to every home
This achievement shows the state’s strong commitment towards energy security, environmental protection and green development. The government’s aim is that in the coming time, every household will be connected to clean energy and the state can become completely self-reliant in the field of energy.
