New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome from the devotees at Car Street in Udupi Sri Krishna Math on November 28. A large number of people gathered to greet Modi, and after that, he proceeded to view the historic Ashta Maths, which are integral to the traditions of the Udupi Sri Krishna temple.
Modi also unveiled the newly constructed Suvarna Teertha Mantapa, which is located in front of the Krishna sanctum, and dedicated the ‘Kanadka Kavacha,’ or golden cover, for the sacred Kanaka Kindi window.
The sacred window is said to be the window through which the saint Kanakadasa is believed to have had the divine darshan of Lord Krishna.
PM Modi also stated that Udupi and Gujarat shared a special connection with their religious and cultural history. Lord Sri Krishna connects the dots between Udupi and Gujarat, as the Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt is traditionally believed to have been found in a large ball of sandalwood from Dwarka in Gujarat.
PM Narendra Modi’s Udupi visit
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister landed at the Mangaluru International Airport and then flew to Udupi in a helicopter. Later, he held a grand roadshow in Udupi ahead of the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme.
Modi visited the historic 800-year-old Sri Krishna Mutt in Udupi after the huge road show. Over one lakh devotees will chant the Bhagavat Gita together at Lakshakanta Geeta Parayan with the Prime Minister.
The Paraya Putthige Mutt seer Sri Sri Sugunnedra Teertha Swamiji felicitated Modi by referring to him as ‘Bharata Bhagya Vidhaata’ and honoured him with a Raksha Kavacha bracelet and a petha with a peacock feather, which is commonly associated with Lord Krishna.
Later, Modi recited verses from the 14th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. Karnataka’s Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, including senior BJP leaders, joined the Prime Minister on the stage.
