How to Check Fake Cumin: Cumin is the most used spice in Indian kitchen, which along with enhancing the taste of food, also helps in improving digestion, reducing gas problems and strengthening immunity. But nowadays, adulterated cumin is easily available in the market, in which grass seeds, small dry leaves, wood sawdust or colored fake seeds are mixed to make it look like the original. This adulteration can gradually become a slow poison for health, especially when it is used in daily food. If you are also eating adulterated cumin, then check it at home in minutes.
Color, shape and aroma will tell the reality of cumin.
Real cumin is light to dark brown in color and its grains are naturally slightly crooked, strong and heavy. When you rub them in your hands, a pungent, earthy genuine aroma comes out which is not present in adulterated cumin seeds. Fake cumin often appears too light or too dark because it is polished. The size of adulterated cumin seeds is slightly different from the real seeds, sometimes very thin, sometimes very light. On the other hand, adulterated grains have very little fragrance or there is a slight chemical smell, which indicates that it is fake.

Identify adulteration immediately by putting it in water
The easiest method is the water test, which anyone can do at home. Add a little cumin in a glass of water. If cumin is real then most of its seeds will settle down. Adulterated cumin often floats to the top, especially when it has been mixed with light sawdust, grass seeds or any dry light seed. If the color of the seeds starts dissolving in water, then know that chemical or artificial dye has been used in cumin and such cumin is harmful for health.
Why is adulterated cumin dangerous?
Consuming such cumin for a long time can cause stomach problems, gas and acidity. Whereas real cumin detoxifies the body and strengthens digestion. Therefore, be careful while buying spices, choose trusted stores and brands, and also check the adulteration of cumin at home.
