The bank has issued an alert for customers
Doing transactions through bank account is a part of our everyday life. Getting salary, paying bills, or paying children’s fees… everything depends on this. Just imagine, what would happen if you suddenly found out that you cannot withdraw even a single penny from your account, nor can you send it to anyone? It is natural to be nervous. A similar situation may arise for lakhs of customers of Punjab National Bank (PNB) at this time, and the reason for this is a small but very important task, e-KYC update. The bank has clearly warned the customers that if you do not update your KYC by 30 November 2025, your savings account will be temporarily frozen.
Why is KYC important?
KYC means Know Your Customer. This is a mandatory banking process, through which the bank verifies the identity and address of its customers. This may sound like a technical process, but its objective is very simple, to prevent fraud, curb money laundering and keep financial crime at bay. The bank ensures that the account is running in the name of the right person. When the bank feels that the customer’s information is outdated or not updated, it asks for KYC.
PNB has given clear instructions to all its customers whose KYC is pending. If you do not update your documents by November 30, 2025, the bank will put your account in ‘non-operative’ category. That is, even if you have lakhs of rupees lying in your account, you will not be able to use it.
Four easy ways to update KYC
PNB has given many easy ways to update KYC for the convenience of customers. You do not need to stand in long queues at the bank, you can complete this work sitting at home or as per your convenience.
- By visiting the nearest bank branch: This is the most traditional and safest method. Visit your base branch (where you have opened the account) or any nearby PNB branch. Carry with you identity proof, address proof (like Aadhaar card), recent photograph of yourself, PAN card (or Form 60), income proof if required, as well as your registered mobile number.
- Use PNB ONE app: If you use the bank’s mobile banking app (PNB ONE), then you can complete the e-KYC process through it also. Login to the app and follow the instructions given.
- From Internet Banking (IBS): Customers who have the facility of Online Banking (Internet Banking Service) of PNB can login and go to ‘Personal Settings’ or ‘Profile’ section and choose the option of KYC update.
- By registered email or post: In some cases, you can also send attested copies of your KYC documents to your home branch on their registered email ID or through post.
